outgoing interior secretary ken salazar. murder in wine country. three bodies found inside a home and this morning the search now on for their killer. it's a developing story from a home on ross station road outside the town of forrestville up in sonoma county. kpix 5 reporter anne makovec has the latest. >> reporter: investigators have been doing a lot more interviews overnight. they say that they are confident they will be able to catch the murderer soon. in the meantime, this person is still on the loose because they say this was not a murder- suicide. three men were found shot to death inside a bedroom in one of the houses on the back end of this property in forrestville. one of the men's brother found them after he hadn't heard from him in several hours. >> we got called at about 3:15 this afternoon by a female reporting party. she was here with her boyfriend. and the boyfriend, his brother is one of the deceased subjects

inside the residence. so they are the ones that came out and found them. >> reporter: investigators have been talking to that couple as well as some people who live on this property. there are several homes here. while the sheriff's office isn't releasing much of what they've discovered, they say we don't need to be too worried about a murderer on the loose. they say there is no sign of struggle at the shooting scene. none of the three men who were killed live on this property. but one of them is related to someone who has some association with it. now, this morning, we are expecting the coroner to come to the property to collect those bodies. we're also expecting to get more information from investigators. of course, we'll pass that on to you when we get it. live in sonoma county, anne makovec, kpix 5. we are getting a look at the last known image now of a 13-year-old bay area girl who was murdered in fairfield. genelle conway allen last seen thursday afternoon near east tabor avenue and grande circle in fairfield. she was found dead the next morning at allan witt park about three miles away.

she had been strangled. so far, no word on a motive or suspects. police tell us they will have more information later today. and this morning palo alto police are looking for a man who threatened to kidnap an 11- year-old girl, tried to grab her as she rode her bike. here's a sketch of the suspect. the girl told police she was riding on emerson street around 5:30 at night when the man started yelling at her and tried to grab her arm. the girl told investigators that the man yelled, he was going to kidnap her as she sped away on her bike. the man is six feet tall, 140 to 160 pounds with thin light- colored hair. a powerful earthquake triggered a tsunami that killed at least five people in the south pacific. the 8.0 magnitude quake struck off the solomon islands. the tsunami measuring 5 feet high swapped several villages. up to -- swatched several villages. up to 80 homes were damaged. the solomon islands are in an active earthquake zone, the ring of fire. >> that's a big earthquake. let's check with lawrence and get your thoughts on this.

congestion. the new speed limits are set to take effect on february 22. nobody will be pressured into reciting the pledge of allegiance at el cerrito city council meetings. the council opened with a pledge last night and then voted to change its policy for future meetings. they say they will still say the pledge but those who don't want to do so will be invited to observe a moment of silence instead. >> one of the things that came up in our strategic planning for the city was that limitation of the city is that we always -- we do things because that's the way we've always done them. so i want to make sure if we continue to recite the pledge, it's a conscious decision that it's the best way to start our meetings. >> no members of the public spoke against the proposal to make the pledge optional. leaders of the boy scouts of america will vote today on whether or not to keep its ban on gay members. if approved, a new proposal would allow individual scout troops to decide how they want to handle the issue.

some religious leaders criticized the possible change. advocates for gay rights say it's time for the boy scouts to ban discrimination. the military is poised to extend some benefits to same- sex parents of gay servicemembers. u.s. officials say they are likely to include some health and welfare programs as well as access to on-base stores and services. the move comes 16 months after the pentagon repealed its ban on openly gay service. an announcement is expected in the next few days. white house defending a memo from the department of justice authorizing drone attacks against americans working with terrorists overseas. the memo says such actions are legal under three conditions. if the suspect is engaged in planning operations to kill americans, if it's not possible to capture the suspect before an attack, and if the operation follows u.s. laws and war principles. >> someone who takes up arms against the united states in a war against the united states is an enemy and therefore could be targeted accordingly.

them about $2 billion and the agency says it's lost about $41 billion over the past six years, $16 billion last year alone this as more mailers have turned to email, internet and online banking. the post office says it tried different options to cut costs in the past. it slashed hours of services at half the nation's 26,000 post offices. every and trim the its workforce by 35% but they say there's only so much they could do without congressional approval. congress never passed a reform bill to give them more flexibility to modernize and streamline services. the cuts will take place this summer but experts say these cuts just aren't enough. >> it won't come close to solving the postal service's problems. it's got to look at more fundamental changes in its infrastructure, its compensation costs, retirement obligations and also what it does and who does its business. >> reporter: the cuts apply to first class mail meaning letters and catalogs won't be

days. well, imagine going from one big event like the super bowl to another big event like mardi gras in just a matter of days. that's what new orleans is doing. they are now in a mad rush to clean up. crews are moving like clockwork to clear stage equipment from jackson square. the same kind of effort is under way along river bound lanes right in front of the superdome. >> this is a big operation. so it's quite impressive. >> the way that they're turning around the city, i have to tell you, it's incredible. >> they really are incredible. carnaval parades start tonight and continue every night through mardi gras next tuesday, fat tuesday. boy, new orleans can handle. they know what they're doing. >> are you getting homesick? >> i know. >> you saw all that video. >> i fell in love the city. it's absolutely unbelievable. we have been talking about the southern hospitality.

even a little snow in the bay area. snow levels dropping to about 2500 feet. high pressure remaining in place for now. but tomorrow, that will change as this low begins to drop down. that will bring with it some very cold air out of the gulf of alaska. and a chance we could see some showers and some low snow levels outside. very interesting on the computer models today. not a bad day in store for us today but then the clouds thicken up tonight and tomorrow morning a chance of some showers developing around the bay area. not going to be a real heavy soaker but scattered showers on and off throughout the day with very cold temperatures. you will want to bundle up the next couple of days. sfo looking okay. mostly clear there. no delays are expected. around the country we could see showers and thunderstorms into houston, 54 degrees in denver, about 30 and cold again in chicago. and 41 in new york. temperatures around the bay in the 50s and the low 60s today. tomorrow, a chance of some unsettled weather continuing right into friday and then saturday and sunday, a return to some dry weather over the weekend. liz? >> okay. we have some updated

information now approaching devil's slide. they are working on one-way traffic control on highway 1. head-on collision approaching park pacifica. hopefully they will clear it quickly. emergency crews are on scene now but you will want to avoid the area because there are very likely delays. elsewhere, we'll go out towards southbound 680 right there approaching 242. we still have that stalled big rig. they are working to clear it. it's still in lanes, maybe sluggish across that stretch but not too bad toward walnut creek. elsewhere, here's a live look across the golden gate bridge. flowing nicely towards doyle drive. coming into san francisco, and here's a look up the incline over at the bay bridge. it's a tight squeeze across that camera but metering lights are on. let's go to our other live traffic cameras and show you conditions around the bay area. here's a live look at 101 traffic approaching the mckee exit. you can see it's crowded in those northbound lanes of 101
